Cat & Mouse By James Patterson pages 415-451

This is the last section of the book. At the very start of this book Alex Cross is working day and night to try and find a pattern to all of the Mr. Smith killings. The only time off he gets, is when he takes his kids to school and when he eats food. He is always looking for any similarities between all of his murders. Then he finds a connection between all of these murders and he finds out that Mr. Smith is confessing something. Then when Alex puts a list of all of Mr. Smith's victims he sees that the initials spell I Murdered Isabella Calais. He knows who all of the victims are, except that the "s" is missing. Alex then thinks he knows who is going to be Mr. Smith's next target. He believed the next victim was Dr. Martin Straw, and he was the man who was having an affair with Isabella. Alex then gathered only a few FBI agents and they waited outside Dr. Straw's house waiting for Mr. Smith to arrive. They did not know that Mr. Smith was listening in on their radio frequency, so he knew that there was a trap for him at the house so he fled with his car towards route two. John Sampson and Alex followed close behind him, on the highway they were pushing 90 mph. Then, somehow they were talking to each other when they were at these high speeds on the highway, Mr. Smith said, "I Murdered Isabella Calais and I can't stop the killing." Alex then knew that with these new letters would be more victims. Then Mr. Smith's car went off the Highway, but Alex and John were going to fast to follow Smith off the highway. When the two detectives finally made it down off the highway, they found Mr. Smith's car abandoned on the side of the road. Alex, then thought that maybe Smith had gone to his apartment in Cambridge to finally end this. When John and Alex arrive at Smith's apartment he is already trying to kill himself, but Alex tries to stop him. Alex gets stabbed by the knife Smith is using, then Sampson shoots Smith twice and he dies.

I thought that this was a good ending to the book Cat and Mouse. Two times to this book, the good guys won against Gary Soneji and Mr. Smith. I liked this book because it ended well for Alex and his family, although there was tension in the middle of the book, when his family was attacked and everyone thought that Alex had been killed. Also, how there was tension when everyone knew that Thomas Pierce was Mr. Smith, but they could not put enough hard evidence on him. I would recommend this book to someone that has a stomach to take some of the murder scenes, and someone old enough because there are some inappropriate scenes in the book

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson pages 378-414

This section is basically about how the FBI and Alex Cross are now chasing Thomas Pierce, Mr. Smith all over the United States. Alex Cross is investigating in Thomas's apartment in Cambridge. In the apartment Alex thinks that he finds a lot of clues dealing with Mr. Smith. When Alex is inside of Thomas's apartment, Thomas's Laptop alarm because it had received a message. The message was from Mr. Smith who is also Thomas Pierce, and the message talked about how he was in Brielle, New Jersey with his next victim Anthony Bruno. Then, Alex and Kyle Craig go to New Jersey and try and stop Mr. Smith from killing Anthony, and at the same time some FBI agents go to Southern California to talk to Thomas Pierce's family. Then, before they could stop Mr. Smith his victim was already killed at the Jersey Shore. At, two in the morning less than a day and a half after they had recovered the body in the Jersey Shore Smith sent another message stating "Inez in Atlantic City". About two dozen FBI agents and Alex rushed down to Atlantic City to try and stop Mr. Smith again. Alex thought that Inez sounded a little bit like Isabella, Mr. Smith's only love. Mr. Smith also said that he would be on the Steel Pier, and Smith said that they could still save them. Then, on the crowded Pier, a body is found, another one of Mr. Smith's victims. After that a plane flew by and a banner on the back that said, "Mr. Smith is gone for now! Wave good-bye." Then after that Alex needed some time to rest so he went back to Washington D.C. and he had dinner with his family and Christine.

This section of the book was a little bit abnormal. First, I did not understand how Mr. Smith put the body on the crowded Steel Pier without anyone noticing him at all. Also, when Alex was inside of Thomas's apartment how did he know to send the E-mail while Alex was still there. Also, I do not understand how Mr. Smith can move place to place so quickly, when the FBI seems to be days behind the killer in this book. Even though this section of the book was creepy, I still like the book overall.
I just finished a 1-3 shift, to help out the Got Rice program. We sold T-shirts and collected donations, that go towards food for people in Vietnam.

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson pages 349-377

This section of the book although short, was packed with important information regarding the story line of the book. At the very start of these pages Alex Cross is back and he is okay. It turns out that all of the official statements at the hospital were all overstatements or just lies. Also, it turns out that Thomas Pierce is really Mr. Smith, but the FBI cannot catch him in the act of one of his crimes. It turns out that Thomas actually killed his girlfriend because she was cheating on him with some other medical school student. Thomas has not slipped up that many times, but one time he was in Germany the same time someone went missing there when Thomas was supposed to be in Rome. Thomas Pierce was also waiting for Simon Conklin to come home. When Simon got back to his house, he was startled to see Thomas waiting for him. Thomas then interrogated Simon very brutally to get the information about the attack on Alex Cross and his family. After a long time and some inhumane tactics, Simon told Thomas that Gary made him attack Alex, and he says that Gary was the leader and not him. After Thomas gets all of this on tape, he than kills Simon the way that Mr. Smith always does. The Police officers that were watching Thomas's apartment, then had to rush over to Simon's house, because they knew that's where Mr. Smith would be. When they all got to Simon's house, they found Simon's dead body and Mr. Smith was no where to be found.

I really liked this section of the book, because most of the things are still coming together. There was also a lot of relief when Alex Cross was still alive at the start of the section. Also, we know that Thomas Pierce is really Mr. Smith. Another piece that is fitting into the puzzle is that we know who attacked the Cross family, it was Simon Conklin. This little section was my favourite because the main character Alex is still alive, although he still has some bruises and lacerations.

Cat & Mouse by James Patterson pages 302-348

This section of the book focuses more on Mr. Smith and Thomas Pierce. When Thomas Pierce was in his hotel room he was thinking about the Alex Cross case when an email came to him from Mr. Smith telling where he was going to kill his next victim in France. Thomas then decided that he must leave immediately for Paris to try and stop Mr. Smith from murdering another person. As Thomas was leaving Washington D.C. he ran into John Sampson, and John got really mad because Thomas was supposed to be putting 100 percent effort into Alex Cross's case. Thomas boarded a plane to France where he thought long and hard about how he could try and stop the murder, but this is dramatic irony because we already know that Mr. Smith has killed Dr. Abel Sante. Thomas's plane landed in Paris and he met up with some of the local police officers. With the local police and Sondra Greenberg, Thomas went to where Mr. Smith told him to go, the Parc de Montsouris. Then Thomas and Sondra got an email from Mr. Smith stating that he lied to Thomas because he left Paris and that the body was really at the Buttes-Chaumont Park. After they found the body, Thomas flew back to D.C. to help with the case on Alex Cross. Then we see Christine Johnson and she has been picked up in a FBI sedan and she goes to this building where she sees Alex, and apparently he is alright. Once back in D.C. Thomas studies some more of Alex's notes on Gary Soneji, and he finds who he thinks was Gary's partner and who could have attacked the Cross's. This man Simon Conklin and Gary as kids thought that they were superior to other kids, and they called themselves "great ones". After John Sampson and Thomas Pierce interviewed Simon, Thomas new that Simon and Gary had to work together. Later, Thomas broke into Simon's house, and in their he found the same type of rifle Gary had used in Union Station. Also, Thomas had found Gary's train set at that moment Thomas knew that Simon and Gary were best friends, and that Simon was the one who attacked Alex.

I liked this section because it really wrapped up the end of part 4 of the book. Thomas was able to go all the way to Paris and try and stop Mr. Smith, and still come back to Washington D.C. and get good solid evidence on who attacked the Cross family. I also like how Thomas was very persistent with his suspect Simon, John was ready to leave because he thought Simon had a good alibi when Alex was shot, but Thomas knows that Gary and Simon work together. I think that this book is really coming together nicely and I want to see what happens at the end of the book.

Cat & Mouse by James Patterson pages 270-301

At the beginning of this section we have learned that Alex Cross had made it through his first round of surgery. Thomas Pierce went to go check on Alex Cross to try and find out who did this to him, but Alex could not talk at the moment. John Sampson was standing near Alex's bedside to make sure that nothing bad happend to him like what happened at the New York Hospital with Gary. Then Thomas went back to Alex's house to investigate more on what happened to Alex. He was wondering if Gary Soneji was still alive and came back and did this to Alex. Gary did warn Alex that he would come back and kill Alex and his entire family. Thomas went into Alex's cellar, because that is where the assaliant had been waiting in the house throughout the duration of the party. In the cellar he finds an old coal stove that has some recently burned substances in their, and he wonders why anyone would start a fire in the middle of summer. When he searches through the ashes and he finds Alex's detective shield. Then John Sampson and Thomas Pierce go to Walter Murphy's house, Gary's grandfather. Then they started digging on his property because Thomas knows that Gary has a lot of nightmares that come back to his grandfather's yard near a firepit and an oak tree. Thomas and John had been digging all day in the hot summer sun when they finnaly uncovered lots of bones, humans and animals. They also find a train set that Gary stole from his stepbrother, that probably caused Gary's murder spree.

I liked this part of the book because it wrapped up some of the loose ends that Alex and some of the other detectives could not figure out. some of these things are like how Thomas Pierce was able to find the bodies that had been missing for years from Gary's first kill. Also we were told how Alex was able to survive his first surgery, that no one thought he could survive. Also how Thomas was able to find another clue about the attacks on the Cross house, with the burned detective shield from Alex. This section of the book lightened up the doleful mood of the last section.

Cat & Mouse by James Patterson pages 236-269

The book continues with the assault of the entire Cross family. Alex Cross is the only one that is in critical condition. Alex's Nana Mama, daughter, and son have only been beaten by some mystery assailant. It starts with Alex's partner, detective John Sampson, as he navigates his way to the Cross house to see what has happened to his good friend. As John gets up close to The Cross's house he could see little Jannie Cross curled up in a ball on the porch. John could see that Jannie was harmed, she had blood on her nightgown and in her hair. As Detective Sampson navigated throughout the house he saw Alex's son, Damon, and one side of his face was beaten with one eye swollen shut. Then we meet a new character, Thomas Pierce, he is the Detective that is trying to work on the Mr. Smith case. Thomas has been transferred into Washington D.C. to try and figure out what has happened to Alex Cross. Thomas is a tall and slender man with long blond hair that was bound in a ponytail. Thomas is supposed to figure out who did this because Gary Soneji warned that he would get Alex even if he had died. Then Thomas says that it could not have been Gary, because Gary would have killed the two kids and the grandmother. Then Thomas Pierce and Kyle Craig rush to the hospital because Alex has gone into Cardiac arrest. After they realize that Alex is in a bad condition Kyle takes Thomas to see the grandmother. When Thomas meets the Grandmother she asks them to tell her the truth about Alex's condition. Then Thomas tells her all about the complications and what has happened, and how he might not make it.

I thought that this part of the book was a little bit sad. First, because the assailant that did this hurt Alex's two young kids, and hurt the grandmother. Also the entire time John Sampson was talking to Jannie Cross she was asking if her brother and dad were okay. Also at the end of the section how Thomas had to break the bad news about Alex to the grandmother. This section was sad because it showed how Alex getting shot affected his entire family

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson pages 190-235

At the start of this section it focuses on Gary Soneji. Gary first heads to New York's Bellevue Hospital because he has heard that the NYPD is holding Shareef Thomas there, and Gary wants revenge on Shareef. Gary then disguised himself as if he worked at the hospital, also he had a photo I.D. of a Francis Michael Nicolo, R.N.. When Gary was making his way to Shareef's room, Detective Groza and Cross were waiting inside of Shareef's room. As Gary entered the room, he was startled at first, but he had on a bulletproof vest and he had firebombs. Gary threw one of these bombs at Groza and Cross, and they burst into flames from the bombs. Even though the flames burst all over them Cross and Groza managed to escape the burning room. Then Detective Groza and Cross chased Gary out of the hospital and onto the busy New York streets. When they exited the hospital it was raining very hard. As they were chasing Gary, Gary boarded a bus full of people carrying an unknown amount of bombs. Gary then took a baby hostage from the bus and then ran for Grand Central Station. Gary was chased by the two detectives down through the deepest part of Grand Central Station. When they caught Gary at the lowest point of the Grand Central Station, Gary threw the baby into the air, and luckily someone caught the baby. Gary then continued through some of the train tunnels. When the two detectives went into the tunnels it was extremely dark and they moved slowly. Then Alex heard a scream from behind him, and Groza was struck by one of Gary's fists, and then Gary punched Alex hard in the left temple. Alex and Gary were then engaged in a long fracas, and Alex could feel Gary's jawbone and his left cheek bone break as he punched them. Then Alex shot Gary with his Glock right in his jaw, and he fell to the ground and landed on one of his bombs and burst into flames.

After that long brawl with Gary, Alex went back to his house in D.C.. At his house there was a surprise party for stopping Gary Soneji. At the party there were many of Alex's friends, family and other police officers from the D.C. area. After this party Alex went to sleep in his house. After he had been asleep for a long period of time, he awoke to a pounding noise somewhere in his house. Before Alex knew what was happening he saw this dark figure rise beside his bed, and the figure began to strike Alex with a large club of some sort. The figure struck Alex in the should and in the lower back, and then Alex recognized the face it was Gary Soneji.

I enjoyed this part of the book because it had some action and some suspense in it. I liked how the detectives knew that Gary would go into the hospital and try and kill Shareef. Also i liked the description of the book when Gary and Alex were fighting in the train tunnels inside of Grand Central Station. Also I liked how everyone thought that Gary was dead so they all took down their guard, but at the end Gary attacked everyone in the Cross house. I thought that this section of the book was the best so far.

It has been a good week so far with a 2 hour delay and a closing.

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson Pages 152-189

This section of the book concludes Part two of this book. At the start of this section Alex Cross is with Detective Groza investigating the death of Detective Manning Goldman. Detective Groza says that Goldman had come from a wealthy family, with the dad as a doctor, and two brothers are dentists. In the house we find out that the computer inside of Goldman's house was recently used, perhaps by Gary Soneji. Alex Cross thinks that Gary would have used the computer to help find Shareef Thomas. After Groza and Cross investigate the house, Alex calls Christine and she tells him that she will be in New York soon. Then Alex and Carmine Groza rush across town to try and pickup Shareef Thomas at his crackhouse before Gary gets there and kills Shareef. When the two detectives arrived at Shareef's place, they were watching the crackhouse for a good two hours. Finally Alex walked into the crackhouse, but it took a little bit to pick out Shareef from the crowd in the dark and dingy room. Then Carmine burst into the room with two other police officers, and that is when Shareef rose up holding a shotgun. Shareef then fired his shotgun into the three New York Police officers, and then Alex shot Shareef with his glock one in his right shoulder and the other shot went under his chin. After Alex killed Shareef he had realized that he had just killed his connection to Gary Soneji. When all of the firing stopped they also realized that Shareef had killed one of the police officers. Then at seven at that same night Alex went to Penn Station to pick up Christine coming to New York from D.C.. After Alex picked her up they went on a date to the MGM musical. After the date this section of the book had just ended.

This section of the book was a little bit slower paced. Although it was better because it took a break from all of the blood and violence from the previous sections. I thought that this ending to part two of they book left me hanging, and not knowing what to expect from Gary Soneji. Like how Gary was able to get inside of Detective Goldman's house and murder him while he was asleep. Also I do not think that Alex knows what Gary will do next.

Cat and Mouse by James Patterson pages 100-151

This section of the book starts out with Gary Soneji dreaming about different killers that he has read about when he was a young boy locked in his cellar. Then the book switches perspectives back to Alex Cross and his family, and it seems like they are having a good time. Alex is talking about how out of all of the killers he had to deal with, Gary is by far the scariest most whacked-out one. Gary had also given a stray cat to Alex, and he told him whenever he saw that cat remember Gary is in the house, Gary is right here. Then Alex takes his cat, Rosie, to the FBI quarters in Quantico to make sure that Gary did not do anything to the cat that could harm the Cross family. While Alex was at the FBI quarters he went to see Kyle Craig, and listen to him talk about the killer in Europe, Mr. Smith. Also, Kyle talks about a man named Thomas Pierce, who is in charge of the Mr. Smith Case, and how he is dedicated because Mr. Smith killed his wife. Then after Alex finds out that nothing is abnormal about his cat, Rosie, Alex and John Sampson drive down to Wilmington, Delaware. As they arrive at Gary's house they find out that Gary had killed his wife Missy Murphy, but he left his daughter alive tied up in the cellar. Then the next day Alex drives down to Lorton prison, a high-security federal prison. In the Prison Alex met an inmate named Jamal Autry, and Jamal knew about Gary Soneji. Jamal told Alex that Gary was dying because he has AIDS, and Alex realized that Gary was on this mad rampage because he had nothing to lose and had nothing to fear from anyone. Then this section ends with Gary Soneji in a persons house creeping around throughout the entire house. Then Gary starts attacking the owner of the house and he says, "Detective Goldman, so nice to meet you.", and Detective Goldman is the man that helped to work the Penn Station case in New York.

This part of the book was not as good as the other sections. I did not think it was as good because the parts when it talked about the killed victims from Gary or Mr. Smith, they were a little bit to descriptive. Also when Alex interviewed Jamal Autry it had a little bit too much information. Overall i like this book, but this section was just a little bit too much violence and too much description about it.

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson pages 69-99

This section of reading started part two of the book, Monster Hunt. The book continues with a scene at Penn Station in New York City, and Gary Soneji is at this trainstation. When Gary had arrived it was about 5:00 or 5:30. Gary was planning on killing more innocent civilians like he had in Union Station, but instead of using a sniper rifle his weapon of choice was a six-inch knife. The knife had a mother-of-pearl handle and a tight serpentine blade on both sides. Gary then picked out a random commuter that he said he had recognized the commuters face in his dreams. Gary stabbed his first victim, the business man, straight in the heart and shortly after he killed the two other innocent victims. As Gary was running away from the murder scene down the stairs no one attempted to stop him.

Then the NYPD arrive in Penn Station and try and figure out the crime scene. The two detectives that had arrived were Detective Manning Goldman and his partner Detective Carmine Groza. Groza was said to look  like a young Sylvester Stallone. Detective Goldman soon figured out that the killer in Union Station has to be the same one in Penn Station. He figured this out because eye-witness accounts showed the killer coming from the Metroliner, which originated in Washington D.C.. Then Detective Goldman calls D.C. because he believes that Gary Soneji is in New York. Then at 6:35 in the morning, Alex Cross and his partner John Sampson take the Metroliner from D.C. all the way to the New York Penn Station. They Arrive in New York at 9:00. When The D.C. detectives meet the NYPD detectives, they converse on what they already know about Gary Soneji. As they examined the bodies they all noticed that there was an unusual amount of blood by they victims, and Goldman stated how Soneji had inflicted very deep wounds on his victims. Detective Goldman also told the D.C. detectives that Gary had put potassium cyanide on the blade, and that poison would kill someone in less than a minute. Then Both Alex and Manning both agree that they think that Gary had escaped through one of the trains.

I am really enjoy reading this book. The book is very fast paced. Sometimes the murder scenes are a little bit graphic, with all the blood, violence, and the in depth descriptions. I really enjoy reading about how Alex Cross, and the other detectives think about the different murder scenes, because my Uncle is a detective and it gives me a little bit of insight of what he experiences and how he works.

some good cat videos

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson Pages 52-65

This section that I have just read finishes up part one of the book, Train Station Murders. I continued reading from chapter 16 and Alex Cross is on a date with Christine, the Principal of Truth School. Truth School is where Alex's kids, Damon and Jannie attend. The date takes place in a restaurant called Kinkead's In Foggy Bottom, it is one of the best restaurants in Washington. It is a real fancy restaurant where there is a man named Hilton Felton playing a jazz piano, and Bob Kinkead, the owner, was inspecting every plate making sure everything was perfect. Christine asks Alex how his day went but he says that he would not like to talk about it because he does not want to relive it. This date takes place on the day when Gary Soneji has just murdered many people in Union Station. During this date, Alex thinks that it is going really well, but when Alex asks Christine on another date she says that it is too soon to start dating again, because her husband has just died about six months ago.

Then the mood of the book switches back to tension with Gary Soneji. He is back in his town of Wilmington, Delaware. He explains the scenery and tells how nothing really fits, like there is a Mural of Whales looked like they were stolen of Southern California also the people wore clothes that looked like they were in 1961. Also the reason that Soneji had come back to this place was for Revenge. Gary goes into his old house where his wife, Missy, and daughter, Roni, was watching T.V.. When he was in their house he had a weapon drawn waiting to attack, and as they both screamed because they know what he does, they chapter ends and breaks the tension.

Then the setting moves to a police scene of the DCPD. At this scene the Police force is trying to collect evidence in order to find the killer Gary Soneji. The DCPD had seen Gary Soneji in his earlier years, but he was a master at disguising himself, so know one could identify him. During this evidence collection they extract information from civilians who had been in Union Station, which were the "untrained eye", and also the officers who were at Union Station after the attack which were the "trained eye". At the end of this scene, Alex gets a call from Curtis Waddle from the FBI evidence lab, and he tells Alex that they found blood on the sniper rifle used, and it was blood from Alex Cross.

I liked this part of the book because it gave me a break in all of the tensions and murders with the slow paced scene at the start. I didn't like the middle part of this section because I did not understand why Gary would go back to his town of Wilmington, Delaware and kill his wife and daughter. I also liked the suspense at the end of this part when we figured out that Alex's blood was on the sniper rifle that killed many people in Union Station, even though it was Gary that pulled the trigger in Union Station. It will be interesting to see what other tricks Gary Soneji will have for his worthy opponent Alex Cross.

Cat & Mouse By James Patterson Pages 1-51

The novel Cat and Mouse starts out by talking about two killers, one in Washington D.C. and the other in London. The Killer in Washington D.C. has come to kill the protagonist Alex Cross. In the Prologue of the book Gary Soneji, the Murderer in D.C., is inside Alex Cross's house. Also, in the Prologue there is mention of the second killer, "Mr. Smith", and in the prologue he is actually already killing a man named Drew Cabot in London. In the first part of the book called "Train Station Murders" it gives some background on the killer Gary Soneji. In some of the chapters that Gary Soneji is narrating, he talks about how he was only nine years old when he was shooting rifles. As a boy, Gary was obsessed with the "crimes of the century." Also when he was only fifteen he buried his first murder victim and the body still was not found.  Gary was fascinated with cats. He said that he enjoyed the way they stalked their prey. Gary also gave a cat to Alex Cross, almost symbolizing that Gary was stalking Alex. Gary Soneji went into Union Station planning on opening fire on hundreds of travelers. In Union Station Gary set up his browning rifle inside of an anteroom, and shot and killed his first victim within seconds of each other. During this shooting, detective Alex Cross and his partner Sampson were called into Union Station to try and end this conflict. As they got to the scene of the crime, the Browning rifle was still going off and Alex could see about four dead bodies. As Alex and his partner Sampson made their way up to where they believed the shots were coming from,  Gary was already gone. Then the book switches perspectives, and it shows how Gary has already escaped long ago.  He actually runs into Alex Cross, but Alex does not even notice Gary. Gary escapes because he takes a Metroliner from Union station, and he gets caught at a police checkpoint.  He is able to produce a fake identification and walks free.

I felt a little bit uncomfortable by Gary Soneji's character. In the first chapter when Gary Soneji is in the Cross's house, he was going through all of their clothes and was putting his face close to them and was smelling their clothes to try and figure out their distinct scent. Also, how it was described in the book that as a child Gary called himself the pet assassin because he would shoot and kill neighborhood pets from the woods. I did not completely understand why Alex Cross would take in a cat given to him by Gary Soneji. I thought that that part of the book was weird. Over all I am really enjoying this book, because it is very fast paced and full of suspense. I want to figure out if Gary Soneji kills Alex Cross, or if Alex Cross is successful in catching this Murderer.
